Difference in culinary habits sucre_2

Back in the old days, rice, pasta, bread was considered as fine as it would give you energy and carbs. We would add sugar on our strawberries without worrying and pour half half in our coffee. Now, sugar has come to be seen as a principal danger in our diets. It is considered as a cause of various illnesses going from diabetes to alzheimer’s.
An australian actor Damon Gameau experiments in a documentary « That Sugar Film » the effects of sugar on our body. For the movie, he spent two months eating forty teaspoons per day. According to the American Heart association men should consume no more than nine teaspoons of added sugar per day and women just six.
Gameau also underlines that eating too much of any kinds of sugar overtaxes our insulin, the hormone in our body that breaks down sugar reducing glycemia when it rises too much leading to diabetes and other diseases. He adds that if people cut out sugar we will all be good as the danger remains in processed food. Consider eating four apples for example ( which people think is good as it contains fibres, nutrients) but yet it means 16 teaspoons of sugar. If you turn those apples into juice, you mainline the excess sugar directly into your blood.

Gameau’s sugary diet experience

After his sugary diet experience, Gameau gained huge amount of weight and flowed his liver with fat. At the end, he was well to develop metabolic disorders. Back to a healthy diet, his health improved.
But, is the issue calories or sugar ? « Many nutritionists believe it’s time to stop demonizing individual components of our diet—whether it’s fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol, or even sugar. It’s time to acknowledge that the special diets that obsess us—whether they consist of fruit or eliminate fruit, rely on meat or banish it—don’t work ».
The main concern is that we eat too much food that is processed and our diets are scandalous. There are two wars regarding sugar: individuals who think it is directly linked to obesity, diabetes and others believing that we are consuming too many empty calories.
Living with sugary drinks and M&M’s is indeed not the solution, the most important is to maintain a balanced diet.
